Appointments

We provide appointments at either site in Sixpenny Handley and Broad Chalke. Please see opening times for more details.

Apart from weekends and public holidays, a doctor is available at one or other of our sites from 8am to 6.30pm every day.

Urgent appointments

Urgent / on the day appointments can be requested by calling the surgery during opening times:

When you get in touch, we’ll ask what you need help with. This will allow your call to be directed to the correct person and prioritise your call according to clinical need.

If the doctor or nurse of your choice is not available, you will be offered an appointment with another member of our team especially if they may be able to see you sooner.

Routine appointments

To request a routine appointment in advance during opening times:

When you get in touch, we’ll ask what you need help with.

We will use your answers to choose the most suitable doctor, nurse or healthcare professional to help you in a timely way.

If you are expecting test results or if you may need more than 10 minutes for your appointment, please let us know when booking.

Enhanced access

There are weekday evening, weekend and bank holiday appointments available in the wider area, bookable through the practice.

Your appointment

However you choose to contact us, we may offer you a consultation:

  • by phone
  • face to face at the surgery
  • on a video call
  • by text or email

Appointments by phone, video call or by text or email can be more flexible and often means you get help sooner.

If the doctor or nurse of your choice is not available, you will be offered an appointment with another member of our team especially if they may be able to see you sooner.

We allow 10 minutes per consultation – during this time all the work related to the consultation is carried out. If we think further advice and care not available within our team is necessary, we will arrange it. If you would like a second opinion, please tell us so that we can discuss the best approach.

Cancelling or changing an appointment

To cancel your appointment:

If you need help when we are closed

If you need medical help now, use NHS 111 online or call 111.

NHS 111 online is for people aged 5 and over. Call 111 if you need help for a child under 5.

The 111 service will be able to help with the following:

  • Advice over the phone.
  • A visit to a local treatment center or walk-in center.
  • A home visit by a nurse, doctor, Emergency Care Practitioner (ECP) or paramedic.

If having been in contact with the out-of-hours team they advise that you need to be seen by your own GP, please take the initiative and call the surgery as early as possible on the next working day.

Don’t wait for us to call you as there is often a delay in messages from the out-of-hours team reaching us.

Call 999 in a medical or mental health emergency. This is when someone is seriously ill or injured and their life is at risk.

If you need help with your appointment

Please tell us:

  • if there’s a specific doctor, nurse or other health professional you would prefer to respond
  • if you would prefer to consult with the doctor or nurse by phone, face-to-face, by video call or by text or email
  • if you need an interpreter
  • if you have any other access or communication needs

Home visits

Home visits are for the permanently housebound and terminally ill.

If you are too ill to come to the Surgery, please telephone the surgery on 01725 552500 before 10am.

The Receptionist will ask you about your illness to help the Doctor to determine priorities.

Home visits are at the discretion of the Doctor who may telephone prior to visiting.

Consultations in the surgery are more satisfactory and best use of time . Please come to the surgery whenever possible.
