The Gronnow Davis Dispensary provides a convenient local dispensary service to support our patients and the primary health care team.
In rural general practice, the dispensary fills a gap that does not exist in urban areas. Vital medicines can be dispensed at point of contact and the repeat medicine service provides medicines for repeat prescriptions.
Our doctors are available from 08:00 – 18:30, 5 days a week at Sixpenny Handley Surgery or Broad Chalke Surgery. All members of the core clinical team are available at both surgeries at various times.
If either site is closed on a weekday, a doctor will still be available so please ring the usual surgery number and your call will be answered. On bank holidays, the surgery is closed, so please call 111 for advice.
Extending Access to GP Services
There are weekday evening, weekend and bank holiday appointments available in the wider area, bookable through the practice.
Find out more about our Extending Access Service.
Out of Hours Service
Between 18:30 and 08:00 Monday to Friday, and all day at weekends and on Bank Holidays, your call will be redirected to the NHS 111 service.
The 111 service will be able to help with the following:
- Advice over the phone.
- A visit to a local treatment centre at St Leonard’s, Shaftesbury, Blandford or Salisbury Hospitals.
- A home visit by a nurse, doctor, Emergency Care Practitioner (ECP) or paramedic.
If having been in contact with the out-of-hours team they advise that you need to be seen by your own GP, please take the initiative and call the surgery on the next working day. Don’t wait for us to call you as there is sometimes a delay in messages from the out-of-hours team reaching us.
In a genuine emergency you should call 999.
Medical emergencies can include:
- Loss of consciousness
- An acute confused state
- Fits that aren’t stopping
- Chest pain
- Breathing difficulties
- Severe bleeding that can’t be stopped
- Severe allergic reactions
- Severe burns or scalds
Call 999 immediately if you or someone else is having a heart attack or stroke. Every second counts with these conditions.
