Sixpenny Handley and Chalke Valley Practice Flu Clinics 2020

When?

  • Saturday 3rd October – all day
  • Saturday 10th October – all day
  • Saturday 17th October – all day

Where?

  • Drive-thru at Broadchalke Primary School Car Park SP5 5DS

Our main flu clinics this year are drive-thru, in line with many other GP practices. This helps keep you and our staff safe and vaccinate you as quickly as we are able to. All clinics are by appointment only. Please read the information below about drive-thru and if it is not possible for you to attend a drive-thru clinic our flu team will help you book an appointment at an alternative venue.

Please note our District Nursing team will be arranging vaccination of their patients in the community.

How do I book my appointment?

One person only from each vehicle to book the appointments. You will need their names and dates of birth at the time of booking with the Flu Team on 01725 553222 Monday-Friday 13:00-14:00.

We apologise for the difficulty in booking a jab this year. We have all experienced a lot of changes recently and our flu booking line has been busier than we anticipated.

We are doing our very best with the staff available to manage the flu vaccination clinic bookings but also maintain the best possible GP service we can.

After a review, we have extended the telephone booking times for the flu clinic.

We have capacity for flu vaccinations for all our eligible patients.

We are experiencing a lot of anger and verbal abuse directed to our team. Please try to be understanding and patient.

Can I have any other vaccination at the drive-thru?

We will only be able to do flu vaccines. If you are eligible for the pneumonia or shingles vaccines please book these on another occasion with a nurse at the surgery.

What if I have a reaction and feel unwell after the vaccine?

It is incredibly rare to have a reaction to a flu vaccine. First aid help will be available at the drive-thru.

How does a drive-thru work?

Each car attending a drive-thru can have up to four occupants eligible for the flu vaccine.  We can only vaccinate patients registered with our surgery. The driver does not need to be having the flu vaccine and you can be driven to the clinic by someone else such as a relative or friend. Each occupant of the vehicle should wear a face covering unless exempt on medical grounds.

Each person having a vaccine should wear a short sleeved top or one with a sleeve pulled up to expose the upper arm just below the shoulder. The window of the car on the side you are sitting must be able to be opened to allow vaccination in your arm that is nearest the window.

You might wish to think about where you sit in the car in advance.

You will remain in your vehicle throughout your time on the school site. There will not be any toilet facilities.

Please do not arrive too early as you are likely to be turned away and asked to return at your appointment time. In order to avoid congestion and respect the local residents we need to ensure the traffic flows. If you are late due to local traffic we will of course do our best to vaccinate you when you arrive.

Please try to use a one way system approaching and leaving the school site.  Marshals will help direct the traffic. From High Road proceed along Newtown and turn left into the school grounds, you will be met by a marshal who will direct you to our admin team to be checked in. Your car will then be directed to the team who will administer the vaccines. The driver will be asked to stop the vehicle, put the hand brake on, the windows down and then switch the engine off. On leaving the site please turn left on to Newtown and continue along until you meet Bury Lane. The school grounds have CCTV and their premises must be respected at all times.

We are very grateful for their kind offer of this site. No vehicle should leave the tarmac route or drive onto any verges.

Please bear with us! This is a new system for all of us, designed to deliver the flu vaccine safely. Your patience and co-operation is appreciated. The format of the clinics may need to be refined over time. Thank you for your understanding!
